Tuition Time Success Stories
LUKE MARSHALL
Finding Howard Boughton was sheer good luck! My son Luke was getting
mediocre results in Chemistry and needed to do far better for a UAI
required for his chosen engineering course. I found Tuition Time in
the Yellow Pages and after meeting with Howard was struck by his
enthusiasm.
Luke went from a Band 2 in Chemistry to a high Band 5 at the end of
the year, far exceeding what was required. Luke was always
enthusiastic about attending tuition, as he enjoyed Howard's' style
of teaching and felt that he was beginning to really understand his
work.
Luke also had tuition in English and Howard's insight into
structuring essays and approaching abstract English Literature
questions was invaluable.
Tuition Time also ran holiday programs in the lead up to the HSC
exams. They reviewed old exam papers and provided a wonderful
opportunity to polish up on exam technique and tackle any problems.
I discovered that many top Port Macquarie students from both Public
and Private Schools were being tutored by Howard. It is however not
only the top students wanting to achieve UAI’s in the 90’s that
benefit from his tuition, but equally students who are battling to
keep their heads above water. Luke had excellent teachers at Port
Macquarie High School, but a good tutor can provide individual
attention and a different perspective. In addition, Howard tends to
play a much broader mentoring role with his students, providing
someone apart from parents and teachers to turn to for advice and
help. He acts as someone on their side.
I am a teacher myself and believe that Howard has a real gift for
teaching. It strikes me that there are a number of facets to
Howard's success, the most important being that he genuinely cares
for and enjoys the company of his students. This is reciprocated by
the students, who in turn have the utmost regard and respect for
him. He has the ability to make every student feel special and thus
build their confidence. The enthusiasm that he shows seems to rub
off on even the most unmotivated kids. These aspects of his tuition
benefit the under-achieving students even more than the top
students.
It is one thing to be coached by someone who has a good knowledge of
the subject matter, but a thorough, up to date knowledge of the
curriculum, what the examiners want and how to approach exam
questions is rare, yet essential for the HSC. Howard is extremely
well qualified and experienced, being a retired Head Master.
Tuition Time is very professionally run, with regular reports posted
home to keep parents in the loop and students well informed about
how they are progressing.
In regard to his broader mentoring role, Howard makes a point of
attending all of the major assemblies at the various schools when
his students may be getting awards..... quite an achievement when
the final assemblies fall so close together! Students were also
promised a reward at the end of the year for showing significant
improvement and 25 students were treated to breakfast at Rydges!
Howard and the other teachers at Tuition Time offer a superb and
unique approach to tutoring that gave Luke and many others the edge
they needed to gain an excellent result.

As I am currently preparing to sit the Graduate
Australian Medical School Admissions Test, I feel extremely
fortunate to have found Tuition Time. I am thoroughly enjoying my
Chemistry Tutorials with Howard and have been impressed with the
supportive nature of Tuition Time and with their focus upon helping
me to achieve my goals that my daughter, in Year 9, is now also
attending.
